US disclaims rumors of Obama planning to name Summers as Fed chief

FXstreet.com (Barcelona) - Due to the substantial agitation in the markets, caused by reports earlier on Friday that US President Barack Obama is to nominate Lawrence Summers as Fed chief, the White House has released a statement in which it denied such intentions.

President Obama hasn´t made a decision yet on who to appoint as Ben Bernanke´s successor, according to White House spokeswoman Amy Brundage who said on her Twitter account that "the latest rumors this morning in the Japanese press aren't true."

US: Retail Sales up 0.2% in August

The Commerce Department has informed that US retail sales have expanded 0.2% MoM during August. Ex autos, sales have also advanced 0.1%. Both prints missed the median at 0.4% and 0.3%, respectively...
